Audiobook Review: Window on the Bay by Debbie Macomber
Jenna Boltz and her best friend, Maureen, made a promise to one another in their college days to take a whirlwind trip to Paris. Yet life temporarily sidetracked their dream as adult responsibilities got in the way. Years later, both women find themselves at a crossroads in life with decisions to be made about the future.
Twenty years ago, Jenna experienced a messy divorce from her cheating husband, Kyle. A successful surgeon, he wasn't as skilled at being a husband to Jenna and a father to their children, Paul and Allie, as he was in the operating room. The same held true for Maureen who experienced her fair share of marital woes. Happily-ever-after was not in the cards for either woman, or so they thought.
When Jenna's mom falls and breaks a hip, Dr. Rowan Lancaster comes into her life. The handsome doctor takes charge, and Jenna finds herself drawn to his warmth and charm. Although she is reluctant to trust another surgeon with her heart, Jenna can't help but wonder, what if. When Jenna's children confront her with life-changing news, she must make the tough decision if there is a place in her life for love and happiness.
Listening to an audiobook is my favorite way to enjoy stories by Debbie Macomber. Similar to visiting with an old friend, the narrators bring the story to life. As a fellow empty nester, I could relate to both Jenna and Maureen as they struggled to redefine their lives. Starting over again is never easy, especially with a new love interest later in life. The friendship between the two women is what makes this story so special. Once again, Macomber weaves a plot filled with love, friendship, and family. Window on the Bay is a delightful read about what truly matters in life.
