Book Review: The May House by Jillian Cantor

Julia, Emily, and Nora May spend the last week of May each year with their grandmother Vera at her beautiful beach cottage in Coronado. When she passed away, the sisters inherited the house with the stipulation that they return the same week every May. Despite their separate lives, each in a different city, they dutifully return and reconnect, honoring Grandma Vera's memory. One summer, Julia didn't arrive, sending ripples through the family about her whereabouts. Secrets unearthed test the loyalty and love of three sisters who have fallen out.

The May House is told in alternating voices and timelines, past and present, and it's a deep exploration of family and sisterly bonds, how time and distance change us. I found myself wishing I could become one of the May sisters myself. The emotional relationships resonated with me. The way it blended a gentle mystery, drama, and feel-good moments into a single story was something I really enjoyed. I was sad to see it end, and I'd love a sequel to see how the girls move on with their lives. I highly recommend this book.
