Book Review: Dogs, Boys, and Other Things I've Cried About by Isabel Klee

Isabel Klee pours her heart out on social media daily, sharing her story as a foster dog mom in New York City. Her followers witness the joy and sadness alongside her. Yet, the missing piece has been the journey that brought her to this place.

In her memoir, DOGS, BOYS, AND OTHER THINGS I'VE CRIED ABOUT, Isabel shares the highs and lows that have shaped her into the strong woman she is today. From dropping out of college in upstate New York to moving into an apartment in the city with roommates she didn’t even know, she delivers an unfiltered look into her life, a raw and brutally honest account.

The most fascinating part is how Simon, her beloved rescue dog, became her constant companion, and how Jacob, her fiancé, stole her heart. The path to where she is today wasn’t straight, yet Isabel navigated it with grace and humility.

As the title suggests, I shed tears reading this on a recent plane flight, deeply moved by her wisdom, strength, and resilience. This is the best book I’ve read so far this year. If you love animals, have ever been uprooted, or needed a fresh start, this memoir is for you. Isabel’s poignant story is a bright light in a world that could use some sunshine.
