SheWrites: Goals, Resolutions, and Planning for the Year by Jennifer Vido

Starting the Year with Intention, Not Pressure

January always carries a certain promise—a clean slate, fresh pages, and the quiet hope that this might be the year we finally get it right. For writers and creatives, though, the pressure to set big goals and hard deadlines can sometimes feel overwhelming rather than inspiring.

That’s why I was honored to write an article for the January issue of SheWrites, focused on goals, resolutions, and thoughtful planning for the year ahead. ✨

In the piece, I explore the idea that setting intentions can be just as powerful—if not more so—than setting rigid deadlines. Intentions give us room to grow, adjust, and honor the creative process, especially when life inevitably throws curveballs our way. Instead of asking, "What must I accomplish?" we can begin with, "How do I want to feel in my creative life this year?"

The article offers gentle, practical ways to:

  • Approach the new year with clarity instead of comparison

  • Set goals that align with your values and season of life

  • Create plans that allow for flexibility, creativity, and grace

If you’re looking for a more sustainable—and kinder—approach to your writing life in 2026, I hope this piece resonates with you.

I’d love to hear from you. How are you approaching your goals this year? Are you leaning into intentions, traditional resolutions, or something in between? Let’s start the conversation.
